So, I’d been hearing folks talk about this Marriott out by Golden Bay in Shenzhen for a while. Decided it was time to pack a small bag and see what all the fuss was about for a weekend. Just needed to get away from the usual four walls, you know?
Getting There and First Look
The drive itself, well, it was a drive. Hit some traffic, which is pretty standard for a weekend, but eventually, we got there. Pulling up to the place, it’s definitely got that big hotel vibe. Looks impressive from the outside, I’ll give it that. The lobby was huge, all shiny and grand. You know the type.
Went to check in. It was… a check-in. Line moved, got my key card. The staff seemed to be juggling a fair bit, but they were polite. No real dramas there, just the usual process. They pointed me towards the elevators and off I went.
The Room Situation
Got to the room, and the first thing I did was check out the view. And yeah, that was pretty much the best part. Overlooked the sea, which is always a plus in my book. Watched the waves for a bit from the balcony. The room itself? It was fine. Clean, which is always a good start. Bed was comfy enough for a couple of nights. Bathroom was standard, shower worked, no complaints there. It had all the usual bits and pieces you’d expect. Didn’t spend ages in the room, to be honest, mostly just for sleeping and a quick shower.
Wandering Around the Place
Decided to explore a bit. The pool area was massive. One of those big, sprawling resort-style pools with different sections. Lots of families and kids splashing about. Took a quick dip myself. Water felt good, especially with the sun out.

They had a gym, saw it from the outside. Looked like it had all the machines, but honestly, I was there to relax, not to run on a treadmill. Each to their own, though.
The hotel has access to a beach area. It’s not like a super private, exclusive thing, more like a public beach that’s just really easy to get to from the hotel grounds. Went for a walk along there. Sand was, well, sand. Good for stretching the legs and getting some sea air.
What About the Food?
Okay, breakfast. It was a big buffet spread. You know the drill – eggs cooked how you want, some noodle station, pastries, fruit, the whole nine yards. Plenty to choose from, so I definitely didn’t go hungry. It did get pretty busy though, especially later in the morning. So, if you don’t like crowds, get down there early.
For dinner one night, tried one of their restaurants, the Chinese one. The food was decent, quite tasty actually. A bit on the pricey side, but then again, it’s a hotel restaurant, so you kind of expect that, don’t you? Service in there was attentive.
- Breakfast: Big buffet, lots of choices.
- Dinner: Tried the Chinese place, food was good.
- Price: What you’d expect for a hotel of this type.
Little Things and Checking Out
Housekeeping did their job. Came back to a tidy room each day, fresh towels and all that. Didn’t really have much other interaction with staff, to be fair. Everyone I did speak to was pleasant enough.

Checkout was straightforward. Went to the desk, handed over the key, paid what I owed, and that was it. No fuss, which is always good when you’re ready to head home.
So, overall, it was a decent weekend break. If you’re looking for that big resort feel right by the sea in Shenzhen, it’s a solid option. The location by the water is definitely its main draw. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city buzz, so it’s more for when you want to just park yourself at the hotel and enjoy the facilities and the beach. Would I go back? Yeah, probably, if I was in the mood for that specific kind of chill-out-by-the-sea weekend again. It did the job.
