So, the old sauna heater finally decided to kick the bucket. Just gave up. One day it’s working, next day, nothing. Dead as a doornail. Figures, right? Always when you actually want to use the thing.

Getting Started

First thing I did was start looking for a new one. Spent a bit of time online, you know, comparing what’s out there. Didn’t want anything too fancy, just something that would get the job done. Found one that seemed decent enough, good reviews, not crazy expensive. Hit the order button.

When the box arrived, it was like Christmas, but for sweating. Pulled the new heater out, looked it over. Seemed solid. The instructions, though… well, they were there. Let’s just say I spent some time staring at diagrams that looked like they were drawn by a toddler.

The Actual Work

Alright, so then I got to work. First, had to rip out the old heater. That was a bit of a pain, all dusty and grimy behind it. Cleaned up the space a bit. Then, figuring out how to mount the new one. The instructions, like I said, weren’t super clear on the best way. So, I kinda had to eyeball it a bit, make sure it was level and all that.

I measured a few times, marked the spots on the wall. Drilled the holes. That part went okay, thankfully. Lifted the heater into place, which was a bit heavier than I thought, and got the screws in. Man, that felt good to have it on the wall.

Wiring it Up

Then came the wiring. Now, I’m no electrician, but I can follow a diagram, usually. This one, I triple-checked everything. You don’t want to mess this part up, believe me. Had to connect the power supply, make sure all the connections were tight. Took my sweet time with this, double-checking the manual (again) and the wires themselves. There were a few moments where I just scratched my head, but eventually, it all seemed to click into place. Or at least, I hoped it did.

Stones and the First Run

Once the wiring was done, and I felt reasonably confident I hadn’t created a fire hazard, it was time for the stones. Opened the bag, rinsed them off like the instructions said. Then I started loading them into the heater, around the elements. It’s like a little puzzle, trying to get them to fit right, not too tight, not too loose.

And then, the moment of truth. Flipped the breaker back on. Went to the controls. Turned it on.

I just stood there for a minute, listening. Heard a faint hum. Then, slowly, that smell of a new heater warming up. You know the one. Watched the elements start to glow a little. Success! It was actually working.

Let it run for a bit to burn off any new-heater smells. Then I finally got to use it. Stepped into the sauna, and yeah, it was heating up nicely. Felt pretty good to have done it myself, even if the instructions were a bit of a battle. Now, I can get back to my regular sauna sessions. All in a day’s work, I guess.
