I was picturing something pretty chill, maybe a decent pool, a sauna, just a place to escape the usual grind for a bit. My main goal was just to relax, nothing complicated.
I decided one weekend, “This is it, I’m gonna find one of these spots.” Cleared my schedule, or so I thought. The plan was simple: head over to Luohu, maybe ask around, see what’s good. I even told my wife I was going to “check out a new health spa sort of thing.” Keep it vague, you know?
My Grand Expedition Plan Goes Wrong
So, I got myself ready, wallet, phone, the usual. But just as I was about to step out the door, the phone rings. It’s my cousin, let’s call him Leo. Now, Leo is the kind of guy who only calls when there’s some kind of minor emergency, usually involving something he’s broken or lost. And guess what? This time, he’d managed to lock his keys inside his apartment, with his stove on. Classic Leo.
He lives way out in Bao’an, which is a trek from my place, and an even bigger trek from Luohu. My “relaxing afternoon” plans started to evaporate right there. Of course, I had to go help him. You can’t leave family stranded with a potential fire hazard, right?
- So, first, I had to cancel my initial Luohu idea in my head.
- Then, I jumped on the metro, heading in the complete opposite direction of where I wanted to go.
- Spent a good hour and a half just travelling to Leo’s place.
- Then another hour trying to find a locksmith who wasn’t going to charge us an arm and a leg on a weekend.
By the time we got his door open and made sure his apartment wasn’t about to go up in flames (it was just some soup simmering, thankfully), most of my afternoon was shot. I was tired, a bit grumpy, and the last thing I wanted to do was start a new adventure across town in Luohu looking for some “water club.”
So, my big exploration of the Luohu District Water Club scene? It turned into the “Save Cousin Leo From Himself” saga. Ended up just grabbing some takeaway on the way home and crashing on the sofa. That was my spa day. Maybe another time I’ll actually make it to Luohu for the intended purpose. Or maybe I’ll just install a better lock on Leo’s door. Probably a better investment of my time, to be honest.
